Gemini looks free until you hit the limit. Then the plan names start to matter.
Gemini pricing runs from $0 on Free to $4.99 a month for Google AI Plus and $19.99 for Google AI Pro. Google AI Ultra costs $99.99 or $199.99. Teams pay per seat, and the API bills per token.
The catch? Each tier changes more than the price. It changes the model, the usage cap, the storage, and the extras bundled in.
We checked Google’s plan, help and API pricing pages, then did the math for solo users, small teams and developers.
So you can pick the tier that fits your week, not the one with the best name.
Key Points
- Gemini pricing in the US: Free costs $0, Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month, Google AI Pro costs $19.99, and Google AI Ultra costs $99.99 (5x Pro usage) or $199.99 (20x Pro usage).
- Pick by usage, not by features. Plus doubles the Free limits, Pro gives 4x, and the context window grows from 32k tokens on Free to 1 million on Pro and Ultra.
- A consumer plan never covers the Gemini API. Developers pay per million tokens, and the Gemini 4 Argon and Gemini 3.8 Flash rates are set to double soon.
- Teams of five spend about $840 a year on Workspace Business Standard, which bundles Gemini, versus $1,199.40 for five separate Google AI Pro plans.

How Much Does Gemini Cost on Each Plan?
Gemini costs between $0 and $199.99 a month for one person in the US. The four consumer tiers sit on top of each other, so each plan includes everything below it.
| Plan | Price per month | Usage limit | Context window | Storage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Standard | 32k tokens | 15 GB | Testing and light chats |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99 | 2x Free | 128k tokens | 400 GB | Daily help on a budget |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 | 4x Free | 1 million tokens | 5 TB | Heavy daily work and long files |
| Google AI Ultra 5x | $99.99 | 5x Pro | 1 million tokens | From 20 TB | Power users and builders |
| Google AI Ultra 20x | $199.99 | 20x Pro | 1 million tokens | From 20 TB | All-day agent and video work |
Prices come from the Gemini subscriptions page, and the context windows from the Gemini Apps limits page. The Best for labels are ours.

What Does the Free Gemini Plan Include?
The Free plan costs $0 with any Google Account. It runs on the Flash-Lite model and still covers more than you’d expect.
You get image generation and editing, Deep Research, Gemini Live and Canvas. Google Flow is included too, with limited access to Nano Banana Pro. Storage stays at the standard 15 GB across Gmail, Drive and Photos.
The limit is the real cost here. Free carries “standard limits” and a 32k token context window. That’s enough for emails, short documents and quick questions about a web page. It isn’t enough for a long contract or a big spreadsheet.
Say you use Gemini to draft replies and summarize a few articles a day. Free handles that without a single dollar spent. But the moment you paste a 100-page report, you’ll feel the ceiling.
Pricing: $0 a month with a Google Account.
Best For
- Students, writers and anyone testing Gemini before paying.
- Light daily tasks like emails, outlines and quick research.
Pros
- Deep Research, Canvas and Gemini Live at no cost.
- Image generation and editing included.
- No card needed to start.
Cons
- Flash-Lite model only, with no Pro model access.
- 32k token context window limits long files.
- Only 15 GB of storage, shared with Gmail and Photos.
What Does Google AI Plus Include for $4.99?
Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month. It’s the cheapest step up, and it moves you from Flash-Lite to the Flash model.
Plus doubles your usage limits over Free. It adds video generation, the Daily Brief and 200 Google Flow credits. Gemini also shows up inside Gmail and Vids, and storage jumps to 400 GB.
The context window grows to 128k tokens. That’s four times the Free window, so mid-sized reports and longer chats fit in one go.
Here’s the thing. Plus doesn’t include the Pro model or Gemini 4 Argon. If you want Google’s strongest models, Plus is a parking spot, not the destination.
Plus is sold in more than 160 countries and territories, so it’s the easiest paid tier to find outside the US. Pro and Ultra reach more than 150.
Pricing: $4.99 a month.
Best For
- People who hit the Free limit a few times a week.
- Anyone who needs more Google storage anyway.
Pros
- 2x the Free usage limits for $4.99.
- 400 GB of storage across Gmail, Drive and Photos.
- Video generation and 200 Flow credits included.
Cons
- No Pro model and no Gemini 4 Argon.
- Google Antigravity access starts on Pro, not Plus.
- 128k tokens still caps big files like long contracts.
What Does Google AI Pro Include for $19.99?
Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month. It’s the plan most people mean when they ask what Gemini costs.
Pro adds Gemini 4 Argon and the Pro model, with 4x the Free usage. You get 1,000 Google Flow credits, entry access to Google Antigravity, and 5x more Audio Overviews in Gemini Notebook.
The bundle is where Pro earns its price. It adds Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Vids, Gemini in Chrome, YouTube Premium Lite, and 5 TB of storage. The context window reaches 1 million tokens.
Google also offered annual billing at $199.99 a year when it launched yearly Pro plans. Today’s US plans page lists the monthly price only, so check checkout before you count on it.
Example: Twelve months at $19.99 comes to $239.88. The $199.99 annual price saves $39.89, roughly two months free.

Pricing: $19.99 a month.
Best For
- Daily users who work with long files, code or research.
- Anyone who wants the strongest Gemini model at a normal price.
Pros
- Gemini 4 Argon and the Pro model.
- 1 million token context window.
- 5 TB of storage plus YouTube Premium Lite.
Cons
- Usage still caps every 5 hours and every week.
- No API access included.
- Annual billing isn’t shown on the US plans page.
What Does Google AI Ultra Cost at 5x and 20x?
Google AI Ultra starts at $99.99 a month for 5x the Pro usage. A second tier at $199.99 gives 20x the Pro usage.
Both tiers add the highest access to Gemini 4 Argon, early access to Tasks in Gemini, and Project Genie. You also get the full YouTube Premium individual plan, Google Home Premium Advanced, and storage from 20 TB. Flow credits jump to 10,000 or 25,000.
When Ultra launched, Josh Woodward, head of Google Labs and the Gemini app, called it “your VIP pass for Google AI.” The price was $249.99 back then. Today’s top tier costs $50 less.
The math favors the bigger tier, oddly enough. Ultra 5x costs 5 times the Pro price for 5x the usage. Ultra 20x costs 10 times the Pro price for 20x the usage.
Example: Per unit of Pro usage, Ultra 5x costs $99.99 ÷ 5 = $20.00. Ultra 20x costs $199.99 ÷ 20 = $10.00. That’s half the price per unit.

Pricing: $99.99 a month (5x Pro) or $199.99 a month (20x Pro).
Best For
- Builders who run agents, video or long research every day.
- People who hit the Pro limit before the week ends.
Pros
- Up to 20x the Pro usage limits.
- Project Genie and early access to new features.
- Full YouTube Premium and 20 TB of storage.
Cons
- $99.99 is a big jump from $19.99.
- Most extras only pay off if you’d buy them anyway.
- Some features are limited to select countries.
How Do Gemini Usage Limits Work?
Gemini usage limits are compute-based. Your limit refreshes every 5 hours until you reach a weekly cap, according to the Gemini Apps limits page.
That means you don’t get a fixed number of prompts. A short chat costs almost nothing. Deep Research and video generation cost the most, because they take more thinking power.
Each plan multiplies the same base. Plus gives 2x standard limits, Pro gives 4x, and Ultra gives 5x or 20x the Pro limits. When you run out, you can buy AI credits to extend your limit.
The context window is the other quiet limit. It decides how much Gemini can read at once. Free reads 32k tokens, Plus reads 128k, and Pro and Ultra read 1 million.

But a bigger window also burns usage faster. Long chats force Gemini to re-read the whole thread before each reply.
Google ranks the cost of each prompt type. Simple chats rank lowest, long chats and large files at medium, and Deep Research and video at high. So two people on the same plan can hit the cap on different days.
One caveat worth being honest about: Google doesn’t publish exact prompt counts. It also says limits may change, so treat the multipliers as a guide.
Top Tip: Start a new chat when you switch topics. Google’s own help page says this saves usage, because Gemini won’t re-read the old thread.
How Does Gemini API Pricing Work?
Gemini API pricing is per million tokens, and no consumer plan includes it. A Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription won’t cover API calls.
The free tier in Google AI Studio gives limited model access at no cost. But Google uses that content to improve its products. The paid tier adds higher rate limits, context caching and the Batch API at 50% off.
| Model | Input per 1M tokens | Output per 1M tokens | Scheduled change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini 4 Argon | $2.00 | $10.00 | $4.00 and $20.00 from December 1, 2026 |
| Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview | $2.00 | $12.00 | None listed (prompts up to 200k tokens) |
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | $0.75 | $3.75 | $1.50 and $7.50 from January 1, 2027 |
| Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite | $0.30 | $2.50 | None listed |
Rates come from the Gemini Developer API pricing page. Output prices include thinking tokens, so a model that reasons longer bills more.
Example: An app sends 1,000 requests a day, each with 2,000 input and 500 output tokens. Over 30 days, that’s 60 million input and 15 million output tokens. On Gemini 3.8 Flash it costs 60 × $0.75 + 15 × $3.75 = $101.25 a month today, and $202.50 after the change.

The same workload costs $270 on Gemini 4 Argon now and $540 after its change. Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite runs it for $55.50.
Top Tip: Send non-urgent jobs through the Batch API. Google lists a 50% cost cut, which halves every figure in that example.
What Does Gemini Cost for Business Teams?
Gemini for teams costs from $7 to $30 per seat a month, depending on the route. You can buy it inside Google Workspace or as Gemini Enterprise.
| Option | Price per seat a month | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace Business Starter | $7 | Gemini in Gmail, 30 GB pooled storage per user |
| Workspace Business Standard | $14 | Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Meet and more, 2 TB |
| Workspace Business Plus | $22 | Standard plus eDiscovery, 5 TB |
| Gemini Enterprise Business | $21 | Agents, connectors, up to 300 seats |
| Gemini Enterprise Standard or Plus | From $30 | IT controls, unlimited seats |
Workspace prices are annual commitments from the Google Workspace pricing page. Gemini Enterprise prices come from the business tab of the Gemini plans page.
Workspace bundles email, storage and Gemini in one seat. Gemini Enterprise is built for agents and data connectors across tools like Microsoft 365, HubSpot and Jira.
Example: Five people on Workspace Business Standard pay 5 × $14 × 12 = $840 a year. Five separate Google AI Pro plans cost 5 × $19.99 × 12 = $1,199.40. Gemini Enterprise Business costs 5 × $21 × 12 = $1,260.

Gemini Enterprise editions keep your data out of model training. Google says your prompts and outputs aren’t used to train its models. We break down every Workspace tier in our Google Workspace pricing guide.
How Does Gemini Pricing Compare With ChatGPT?
Gemini pricing sits close to ChatGPT at every level, with a cheaper entry tier. The tiers line up almost dollar for dollar.
Google AI Plus costs $4.99 against ChatGPT Go at $8. Pro costs $19.99 against ChatGPT Plus at $20. And Ultra starts at $99.99, while ChatGPT Pro starts at $100.
So price won’t decide this for you. The bundle and your daily apps will.
Gemini plans add Google storage: 400 GB on Plus, 5 TB on Pro, and 20 TB or more on Ultra. Pro and Ultra also include YouTube Premium Lite or full YouTube Premium. If you already pay Google for storage, Gemini can replace that bill.
ChatGPT’s paid plans don’t bundle cloud storage or video perks. OpenAI also notes its Go plan may include ads.
Your daily tools matter more than either price list. If your team lives in Gmail, Docs and Drive, Gemini sits right inside them. If your work runs through other apps, the ChatGPT tiers may fit better.
Fun fact: the $0.01 gap between Pro and Plus won’t buy you a coffee. Pick by workflow.
For the full OpenAI breakdown, read our ChatGPT pricing guide. Check each vendor’s page before you buy, because both change plans often.
Which Gemini Plan Should You Pick?
The right Gemini plan depends on how often you hit the limit and how long your files are. Start from your workload, then check the price.
| If this is you | Pick | Price per month |
|---|---|---|
| You chat a few times a day and use short files | Free | $0 |
| You hit the Free limit weekly or need storage | Google AI Plus | $4.99 |
| You work with long files, code or research daily | Google AI Pro | $19.99 |
| You run agents or video and hit Pro limits | Google AI Ultra 5x | $99.99 |
| Your team works in Gmail, Docs and Drive | Workspace Business Standard | $14 per seat |
| You’re building an app | Gemini API | Per token |
The labels are ours, based on the limits Google publishes.

Three checks help you decide:
- Limit hits: Count how often you saw a usage warning last week. Twice or more points to the next tier.
- File size: If your files run past 100 pages, skip Plus and go straight to Pro.
- Storage bill: Add what you already pay Google for storage. Pro’s 5 TB may cancel that cost.

What Should You Do Next With Gemini?
Gemini pricing comes down to limits, not features. Free and Plus cover light work, Pro fits most daily users, and Ultra only pays off when you hit Pro limits every week. Teams usually save by buying Gemini through Workspace instead of separate Pro plans, and developers pay for the API on its own bill.
This week, open Gemini and note every time you see a usage warning for five working days. Two or more warnings mean it’s time to move up one tier, and not before. Until then, the cheaper plan is doing its job.
FAQs
Is Google AI Pro Free for Students?
Yes, eligible US college students aged 18 or older can get Google AI Pro free for one year. You must verify your status each year and redeem the offer by December 31, 2026. After the free year, Gemini pricing returns to $19.99 a month unless you cancel, according to the Gemini student page.
Does a Gemini Subscription Include API Access?
No, a Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra subscription doesn’t include Gemini API usage. The API runs on separate per-token billing through Google AI Studio or Google Cloud. Developers can start on the free tier, but Google uses that content to improve its products. The paid tier keeps your content out of that process.
How Do I Cancel a Gemini Subscription?
You can cancel a Google AI plan anytime, and Google says so on its plans page. In the Gemini mobile app, tap your profile picture and open Settings to manage the plan. Google’s terms add that there are no refunds for partial billing periods, except where the law requires them.
Is Gemini Advanced Still a Thing?
No, Gemini Advanced no longer exists as a plan name. Google replaced its old AI Premium plan with Google AI Pro, which now includes the Gemini app features once sold as Gemini Advanced. Today’s Gemini pricing lists four consumer tiers instead: Free, Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra.
